Comfort, kept
honestly.
Since 2013.

Started in a garage in Cary by two friends who'd worked at the big regional chain and got tired of how customers were treated. Twelve years later we're a 28-truck operation across the Triangle — and we still answer to the people whose names are on the side of the truck.

What we do

HVAC first.
Plumbing too.

We started out fixing furnaces and air conditioners — that's still 80% of what we do. A few years in, our customers kept asking us to look at their water heaters and shut-off valves while we were already in the house. So we hired a master plumber. Now we cover both.

The Bellwether story

A garage in Cary, 2013.

Ellis and Marcus met as service techs at the biggest HVAC chain in Raleigh. Both of them loved the work and hated the way customers got treated — the upsells, the surprise charges, the technicians pushed to close instead of solve. So they quit, bought one used van between them, and started Bellwether out of Ellis's garage in Cary.

The first year was three trucks and a lot of late nights. By 2017 we had ten. By 2021 we'd outgrown the original warehouse and moved into our current space off Wade Avenue. Today there are 28 trucks on the road and 46 of us total — but the rule that started it all hasn't changed: recommend the work the customer would want if they understood the system as well as you do.

We added plumbing in 2019 because we kept finding water-heater problems on HVAC calls. Everything else, we've kept simple. One office, one phone number, one team.

We're growing fast

From 3 trucks to 28.

When Ellis and Marcus started in 2013, they answered the phone themselves. By 2018 they had to hire their first dispatcher. This year alone we're up another 28% in call volume — and we're hiring as fast as we can find people we trust on a customer's property.

If you're a technician with a clean record and the patience to do things right, we want to meet you. If you're a CSR who can stay calm with a panicked customer at 4:55 PM on a Friday in July, we really want to meet you.

What folks say

The work, in their words.

The math behind the work: a team that shows up when promised, a quote that matches the invoice, and technicians who explain what they're doing. Twelve years on, the reviews mostly write themselves.

"The reviews are nice, but the repeat business is what we watch."

About 6 in 10 households who call us once call us again within 18 months. That's the metric we actually run the company on — not stars, not awards, not algorithm rankings.

— Ellis & Marcus
Replaced our 22-year-old system in July. Three quotes total — Bellwether wasn't the cheapest, but the tech who came to scope it spent 40 minutes in the attic and actually measured the ductwork instead of guessing. The install crew showed up when they said, cleaned up when they finished, and the house has felt different ever since.

Three quotes for a new system: $14k, $11k, and Bellwether at $9,400 for a higher SEER unit. They didn't try to sell me what I didn't need. Three years on, zero issues, and the spring tune-ups have caught two small things before they became big.

Found Bellwether in 2016 when my old company tried to sell me a new system I didn't need. The Bellwether tech took one look, replaced a $40 capacitor, and the unit ran another six years. They've serviced everything in this house since — furnace, AC, water heater. Never had to think twice.

Had them out for a leaky water heater on Tuesday, then a spring AC tune-up the next week. Both technicians wore booties, both explained everything, both quoted before they did anything. Honestly the most painless service experience I've had with any home contractor.
