A garage in Cary, 2013.
Ellis and Marcus met as service techs at the biggest HVAC chain in Raleigh. Both of them loved the work and hated the way customers got treated — the upsells, the surprise charges, the technicians pushed to close instead of solve. So they quit, bought one used van between them, and started Bellwether out of Ellis's garage in Cary.
The first year was three trucks and a lot of late nights. By 2017 we had ten. By 2021 we'd outgrown the original warehouse and moved into our current space off Wade Avenue. Today there are 28 trucks on the road and 46 of us total — but the rule that started it all hasn't changed: recommend the work the customer would want if they understood the system as well as you do.
We added plumbing in 2019 because we kept finding water-heater problems on HVAC calls. Everything else, we've kept simple. One office, one phone number, one team.
